MENTAL HEALTHCARE

Ask the client if they already have insurance.

If your client is uninsured and lives in New York, we can get them set up with our REAP office to get Medicaid. (Refer to the above 1.b.i. HEALTH INSURANCE in this Access Sections walkthrough for how to get your client health insurance, as a well as descriptions on how to tell if your client has Medicare or Medicaid)

Find a provider that takes their insurance

  1. Libertas has remote mental health resources and their work is focused specifically on survivors of torture/human rights violations (they also offer medical care) Any survivors of domestic violence are also eligible They can also help with referrals to support groups, social services, etc. Go to the “Make a Referral” form on their “Contact Us” section Link: http://www.libertascenter.net/make-a-referral-1

  2. Settlement Health is great for ongoing primary care (family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, women’s health) and mental health care. It is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and can see uninsured patients Email Dr. Joseph Truglio (joseph.truglio@mssm.edu) and Jamary Pagan (jpagan@settlementhealth.org) at Settlement health and CC Dr. Singer (elizabeth.singer@mssm.edu) and your ACCESS leads Shahood (shahood.fazal@icahn.mssm.edu) & Janet (janet.coleman-belin@icahn.mssm.edu) to set up an appointment

  3. Sinai OPD resident Psych clinic (starts July 2021) Dr. Katz, Dr. Baranowski, and Dr. Singer are still planning on getting a small cohort of Sinai psych residents (3rd and 4th years) together to complete a year or two-year elective. We will then be able to refer clients to these residents for a year or two. Dr. Katz will be doing the overseeing. This likely will start in July 2021.

  4. SAVI, a Mt. Sinai resource for survivors of sexual assault and violence, is also a resource. Let Dr. Singer (elizabeth.singer@mssm.edu, CC Janet and Shahood) know and she can directly email Lynn Fredrick Hawley (lynn.frederick-hawley@mssm.edu), who runs the program and is excellent. If we have referrals there, please let me know and I can email her directly. They provide 30 free sessions for mental health care with incredibly well-trained counselors in trauma-informed care. They have an office on Sinai campus (next door to Aron Hall) and one in Brooklyn.

  5. This Doc lists free or low-cost clinics (by location) for medical care, mental healthcare, and dental coverage. Please be sure to call before referring your client since we haven’t vetted this list
