MEDICAL/CONTINUITY HEALTHCARE
Ask the client if they already have insurance. Specifically, ask clients if they have Medicaid or Medicare
If your client is uninsured and lives in New York, we can get them set up with our REAP office to get Medicaid. (Refer to the above 1.b.i. HEALTH INSURANCE in this Access Sections walkthrough for how to get your client health insurance, as a well as descriptions on how to tell if your client has Medicare or Medicaid)
Find a provider that takes their insurance Settlement Health is extremely happy to see MSHRP clients for ongoing primary care (family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, women’s health) and also offers mental health care. It is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and can see uninsured patients
Settlement Health is our #1 resource for medical or continuity care needs since Dr. Truglio and the Med-Peds team are leading the effort to see as many of our clients as possible!
Email Dr. Joseph Truglio (joseph.truglio@mssm.edu) and Jamary Pagan (jpagan@settlementhealth.org) at Settlement Health; CC Dr. Singer (elizabeth.singer@mssm.edu) and your ACCESS leads Shahood (shahood.fazal@icahn.mssm.edu) & Janet (janet.coleman-belin@icahn.mssm.edu) to set up an appointment
Remember: if your client is a minor or pregnant contact Dr. Singer (elizabeth.singer@mssm.edu) and Paige Keren (social worker) paige.keren@mountsinai.org, who will assist, as your case is considered sensitive.
We also directly refer to the following two primary care providers in IMA at Sinai (Mount Sinai Internal Medicine Associates). You can reach out to either of these providers directly rather than going through the IMA call center.
Dr. Jennifer Weintraub (jennifer.weintraub@mountsinai.org) She’s extremely involved as a faculty leader in MSHRP and is extremely knowledgable in caring for asylum seekers.
Dr. Linda Wang (linda.wang2@mountsinai.org) She trained at the Monte Primary Care program several years ago and where residents trained and performed forensic evals of survivors of torture alongside HealthRight International. She is well versed in caring for asylum seekers.
We haven't referred any clients to Dr. Wang recently, so if we start to use her as PC doctor again, please remind her of what ACCESS is doing in terms of linkages to continuity care.
Libertas is a great for medical care for clients in Queens and remote mental health resources since their work is focused specifically on survivors of torture/human rights violations
Any survivors of domestic violence are also eligible
They can also help with referrals to support groups, social services, etc.
Click here. Go to the “Make a Referral” form on their “Contact Us” section
Note: please reserve them for Queens clients, as they are a bit far from Manhattan and the Bronx and we have IMA and Settlement Health in our own backyard with some of our own MSHRP evaluators and faculty.
View this spreadsheet , which has a host of resources for clinics
This Doc lists free or low-cost clinics (by location) for medical care, mental healthcare, and dental coverage. Please be sure to call before referring your client since we haven’t vetted this list
